‘Extract’ is exclusively written and directed by Mike Judge. The comedy flick sees Joel, played by Jason Bateman, struggling for ‘salvation’ when hires a horde of useless and silly employees who soon become the reason for his miserable life. He owns and manages a small-scale manufacturing business. He finds confronting every misdeed done by his employees, and sees his married life also flying out of the window. Though he owns a business, problems and headaches constantly follows him wherever he goes.
His fate tests him every minute of his patience. Each day is like a battle for him which he has to win for his survival. His destiny plays games, to an extent that his married life is constantly hitting the rocks, followed by how his to-be manager lands up in a crude accident as a consequence of a factory unit dysfunction.
The situation worsens when he seeks some suggestions from his drug-addicted, ever alcoholic friend, Dean. Joel is made to cross-check on his wife and tries to test her loyalty. His married life is shattered, thanks to Dean, played by Ben Affleck. This is not the end of it yet. He realizes that his very own employee, Cindy, is eyeing on all his companies profit. His success is declining every passing day. Life was never so miserable and out of control for Joel.
The movie depicts a total rollercoaster ride with every moment funnier than the other.
Joel feels lost and helpless with the way his life is taking shape. He is now determined to find every way possible under the sun to get back his professional success and his mend his about-to-be broken marriage. Joel is craving to get back his hold on life and at the same time gaining momentum for his slow paced disastrous being.
