Reel Review: Limitless is a 2011 American techno-thriller film directed by Neil Burger and starring Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish, and Robert De Niro. It is based on the 2001 novel The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn with the screenplay by Leslie Dixon. The film was released in the United States and Canada on March 18, 2011. It is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on March 23, 2011.
What’s Inside: Out-of-work writer Eddie Morra’s (Cooper) rejection by girlfriend Lindy (Abbie Cornish) confirms his belief that he has zero future. That all vanishes the day an old friend introduces Eddie to MDT, a designer pharmaceutical that makes him laser focused and more confident than any man alive. However, it does come with a side effect he has to elude to fulfill his destiny. If he can’t, he will become just another victim who thought he’d found invincibility in a bottle.
Wrapping It Up: “Limitless” is passably entertaining. The actors in the film did not really grow in the movie. De Niro is not well used in the role, because he plays his character straight and in one dimension. The movie is not terrifically good, but the premise is intriguing. It may leave you wanting to fin out more about this pill as it doesn’t really set out to explore what such a pill might really to do a person. The movie is smart but a lot could have been done to make it spectacular.
