Planet 51

Planet 51 Movie“Planet 51” is an exemplary science-fiction animation. It depicts today’s most curious element of space science and exploration. Since the first trip to the moon, man has been inquisitive about the possibility of another planet with similar life as the earths. If there is another planet with similar characteristics as the earth, does it have human-being-like creatures? Are they any more intelligent than we are? What if they invade the earth? But worse still, what would happen to an astronaut who lands into an alien inhabited planet?

Imagination of aliens landing into a new planet and the reaction of the inhabitants is best depicted in the movie “Planet 51”. The inhabitants of this planet live in fear that they may be invaded by strange beings. They however have no ideas what sort of beings these may be. Would they be able to defend their land if the aliens invade? Though no one has ever seen an alien, they have complex imaginations of the physic of the aliens. Despite several attempts at readying themselves, Planet 51 inhabitants never feel confident of handling an attack and instead they live in constant fear.

Their worst fear is made real when a space object is observed approaching their control units. All systems get alert and they are ready to defend or attack. Every move of the object is picked carefully. The object navigates carefully and lands, out emerges a really strange creature. Captain Charles “Chuck” Baker has just landed form planet earth. At first there is no communication, not even body language. Decision has to be quickly made as to whether the object and the alien creature should be attacked.

At last, a young resident gathers the courage and quickly builds friendship with Capt Chuck. He is the only hope of the Captain is it becomes evident that the inhabitants are intent of capturing and destroying the alien. The astronaut’s only chance is in to recover his space ship and fly back home to earth. Will he escape?

Broken Embraces

Broken Embraces

Broken EmbracesLiving in the shadows of Mateo Blanco is a convenient position memory lapse chosen by the blind ‘Harry Caine’. He has too many bitter recollections that are best forgotten, the first step towards a new life is to have a new fake name. Mateo Blanco however is so ardent at disregarding his past that he now officially takes on the new man and signature for his business, Mr. Harry Caine.

The movie “Broken Embraces” is given meaning by the tragic car accident that happens fourteen years earlier in the Island of Lanzarote. All that the ‘dead’ Mateo Blanco held in awe, all that gave his life a meaning including his lover Lena and eye sight were lost from his embrace. For a while he maintains the use of his name Mateo Blanco in his movie director job. The continued use of the name turns out to be a source of torment to him and he realizes that he must forget everything associated with the name.

At least the new Harry Caine has some few people who give him laughter. His former film production manager Judit García who animated the creative scripts that told the stories of Harry, is a reliable shold to cry on. Judith’s son Diego, the secretary, typist and guide are his most precious treasures. With the help of his script writing career and the five people around him, the blind Harry Caine has blossomed in to an attractive man. He has effectively rubbed off the sad memories of Mateo Blamco and the lovely Lena woman.

When Diego is involved in an accident and they try to hide the incident from his mother Judith for fear of harming her, the memories of the Mateo Blanco become the consolation from Harry Caine. With Diego experiencing convalescence, Harry is left with no choicer and is astonished at the ease with which he is able to relay his story just like singing a lullaby song. A bumpy clandestine love story, too sand to be remembered.

The Maid

The Maid

The Maid MovieThe Maid was first debuted at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and is due to have its theatrical debut on Oct. 16, 2009.  With Sebastian Silva (And Starring Poncho Villa as Himself) as a director and also co-writer, along with Pedro Peirano, Gregorio Gonzalez as the producer, music by Pedro Soubercaseaux (La Nana) and starring Catalina Saavedra, Claudia Celedón, Mariana Loyola, Andrea García-Huidobro, Alejandro Goic and Agustín Silva it is no wonder why this dramatic comedy has touched so many people.  The Maid has also won awards such as the World Cinema Jury Prize: Dramatic and a World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Acting.

The Maid, set in Santiago, Chile, describes life for Raquel (Catalina Saavedra), the Valdes’ live-in family maid for 23 years.  Raquel has not reached the status of a family member, but she is treated like more than just a maid.  And that is where this she becomes confused; she is under the impression that she is truly part of the family.  Due to the growing conflict between Raquel and the family’s oldest daughter and her resentment that she cannot hide, the family believes that she is overwhelmed and overworked.  To solve this they decide to hire more help, but this simply makes the situation worse.  Resorting to childish antics, she secretly sabotages every employee that the family hires.  That is, until the last of the help, Lucy, sees through her and helps her on her way to a renewed sense of self discovery.

This film not only discusses the path toward self discovery, but it discusses family and explores the distinction between the classes.  Silva’s walk on this path is greatly shown through the intimacy that he provides, which is done beautifully, throughout the film.  Simply, The Maid offers a lesson that we all should learn.

An Education

An Education

An Education ReviewA promising star cast and a heartfelt story are directing that this is going to be a movie to watch for!

The movie is about a young girl in wait to be an adult and dreams about the fine things of life. The movie is about the decisions which she has to make, and bear the consequences she has to bear the rest of her life. It calls her to take a grown up decision and go through such experiences when she is still an adolescent.

16 year old Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is doing well in her school and is bored of the adolescent routine of her life. One day when she is stuck in rain, a rich gentleman (Peter Sarsgaard) comes to her rescue. In this brief meeting the 30-something gentleman falls for Jenny and goes ahead to propose her. Surprisingly he also convinces her conservative parents (Alfred Molina and Cara Seymour).

With this they become a couple and now he exposes her to a lot of different things which a girl her age only dreamt of. He introduced her to his social indulgences and his attractive friend (Dominic Cooper) and his callous beauty, Helen (Rosamund Pike). He started a new kind of education routine for her, after school he would take her in his car to the smoky clubs and art auctions. He took her to the dazzling world of late night suppers and classical concerts.
She liked everything which was happening to her. She even goes to Paris with him where she loses her virginity.

When she comes back from the tour her teachers (Emma Thompson and Olivia Williams) who looked up to her were scandalized. They thought that she was drifting away from her life and her prospect of higher education at oxford. They think that David will be responsible for her undoing.

It is about a clash of ideologies. Jenny has to decide what to choose, which form of education to vie for. At one hand she gets the traditional education and on another a set of new experiences. She feels grown up but not wise enough!

The Damned United Review

The Damned United Review

The Damned United ReviewThis British movie is based on the famous novel by David Peace with the same name, the Damned United. This movie is directed by a new British director Tom Hooper. The novel and the movie both are based on the late football manager Brian Clough and the brief stint of 44 days where he was the in-charge of the Leeds united in the seventies. The character is of Clough is played by Sheen. The story shows how the efforts made by Clough rise up the minnow sides like the Derby County to the Division One champions. However he always remained in the shade of the boss of Leeds, Don Revie.

As compared to the novel, there is a cordial approach to Clough. The movie is written by Peter Morgan and shows how after triumphing over Derby County, Clough failed to replace the in-charge of new England boss Don Revie. This movie shows the life of Clough as a buddy movie, where Clough and his assistant Peter Taylor, which is played by Timothy Spall, are the buddies.
The film shows how these two men were totally different from each other. Clough was indulgent, vain, very boastful and icily comic. On the other side Taylor is showed to be magnanimous, decent and does not have big ambitions like his boss.

This film has successfully portrayed the dingy disintegration that hovered over football and the muddy pitches in the 70’s. Then the players ran up till the terrace in loops and considered this training. Very commonly players were seen smoking during and even before the matches. Sheen has very well personified the ambitious and dream catcher character of Clough. The extraordinary scene which shows the first meeting of Clough with the championship winning Leeds players is simply a delight to the eyes. This follows the exit of their manager, Don Revie who was adored. But the absence of any women characters is a risk that the movie has taken. Overall, it has been entertaining and has warmth and wit throughout.

Bronson Review

Bronson Review

Bronson ReviewVery seldom do action movies create a wave amongst a wide range of audience. It is generally liked by those who are able to appreciate action. But this psychopath action has created a stir of wider wavelength. Not only the cinema audience who are fond of action genre, but also the people who are averse to action genre are waiting with bated breath for this movie to hit the theatres close to them.

Thomas hardy is playing the role of Michael Gordon Peterson, who later called himself Charles Bronson after an actor. He is considers action as his other self and later on takes it to the level of art and self expression, of a different kind of course! The movie is told with a streak of humor which blurs the distance between comedy and horror.

The movie starts with him stating that he wanted to be famous. But he didn’t know how to sing or dance! So he created his own USP- and then comes a series of clips showing him fighting prison guards or wearing makeup and fighting in the ring or the stage. Ten there are shots where he is shown at different ages fighting with people or in school. He marries a woman in the chip shop and has a son. And soon after that he robs a post office and was sentenced to jail. After that started his fights and extended sentence in jail. He spent 34 years in jail which he enjoyed every second of!

He wished to famous and he became once he went into the jail. He used it as an arena to grow himself. From fighting he directed towards arts. Still the streak of madness was there in him as always!

The movie promises a good watch and the depiction gripping.

Bronson

Bronson

Bronson MovieInspired by a true story, Bronson is an example of how much trouble a young adult with a head full of dreams can land in. The year is 1974 in a city setting. Michael Peterson who has just turned 19 is feeling confident of going after his dream. There is however a challenge that he has to overcome, he needs cash. It is clear to him that what stands between him and his dream is the post office.

The scheming begins with several solitary walks. Michael sets up the plot by writing a list of what he needs. First on the list is to forcefully break into the post office. He does a reconnaissance tour of the mind round the city and the post office. He has to get a powerful gun, but this is not an easy task given the fact that he has no licensed gun. He lays his hands on an old sawn-off shotgun and gets ready for his mission. Michael strikes, but he is not lucky, this first time attempt lands him in trouble. He is swiftly apprehended by the police. The judge is not sympathetic and hands him a 7 years sentence in jail to teach him a lesson and cut off the budding criminal mind.

The seven years are a pale shadow of what is to come. He is subsequently arrested in more than 30 incidences. He spends a total of 34 years behind bars. Many of these times, he is in solitary confinement. Instead of shaping Michael to Mr. Nice, the 34 years in jail serve as the best school for his creative and sharp mind. He emerges as more hardened criminal and good at scheming. The rest of the story is scaring; it is beyond imagination as you experience on movie the making of the most dangerous prisoner, Charles Bronson. Watch out for the new release, you cannot miss this!

An Education Review

An Education Review

An EducationTruly an education!

This thriller movie full of suspense is set on 1961 London. Nothing compared to the London you know today. It is boring to death, just a drab, to make matters worse, it is 11 years after the 1950 war. The exciting and free living times are a decade away.

Jenny played by Carey Mulligan is the main character. She is an emerging adult, very brilliant and amusing. In addition, she is among the rear combination of beauty and brains, she is cute and truly sweet sixteen. She is ripe for a good investment in education that would set her to honored career path.

Jenny has grown up in the suburban life on an averagely normal moral barometer. Suddenly David played by Peter Sarsgaard who has lived close to double the lifetime of the innocent Jenny appears and is bent on corrupting the little girl. David waves the urban charm to this almost rural girl and she can’t resist. He is humorous and clever and quickly gains acceptance among Jenny’s conservative parents Jack (Alfred Molina) and Marjorie (played by Cara Seymour).

As if the two have been granted a license by Jenny’s parents to educate her, David takes it upon himself to introduce her to the fancy new world of classical concerts. The two increasingly become nocturnal, spending time in late night suppers with the high flying business partners of David. One of the partners is the couple of Danny (Domnic Cooper) and his girlfriend who is pretty but empty headed Hellen played by Rosamund Pike.

Then comes knocking the coveted Oxford college entry chance for Jenny, but it is too late. After all, she has had an education! This is a MUST WATCH, good lessons for anyone who cares for a woman.

35 Shots of Rum Review

35 Shots of Rum Review

35 Shots of Rum“35 Shots of Rum” is the latest movie of French director Claire Denis. This multi-talented mademoiselle is a well known name to all movie lovers around the world. Her movies are always very well accepted from both press and critic, and her fan base is very faithful, and follows her work through the years.

Claire Denis has won various awards, very important in the film industry, such as Golden palm in Cannes and Special Award in Berlin. She was also a jury member at Venice Film Festival in 2005, and is currently Professor at La Femis, in Paris.
In her new feature “35 Shots of Rum” Claire Denis is credited as both, a writer and director. She was deeply touched by this story, decided to co-write the scenario, and step behind the camera to tell it to the audience.

The movie takes place in Paris (in authors home town, which she gladly portraits) in a distant suburban zone. The main character is a metro conductor, who lost his wife and finds relief in his work. He is soon to be retired, sharing his living space with his daughter – a college student, full of life and enthusiasm. She is very beautiful, positive and charming, and everyone likes her, especially their neighbor, who falls in love with her.

Their lives become even more complicated (in terms of relationships) because man’s former lover lives in the same building as they do, and continues to be a huge part of their everyday life.
Clire Denis is an amazing presenter of human character, and her specialty is portraying difficult human relations. In this movie, she has accented the circle in which main protagonists are trying to stay true to themselves, move on with their lives, try to find a little tenderness and happiness, and evolve from the past.
If you liked the movie “Chocolate”, prepare for the equally powerful emotional roller coaster. Once again you will laugh and cry with our characters and feel relieved and happier after watching this film.
