Although he is a filmmaker at the age of 34 Fatih Akin had two breathtaking films under his belt. Head On and the Edge of Heaven, both of which when they premiered at various film festivals. Both movies were heavy dramas with characters of Turkish descent living in Germany and how they were able to define their homes and their roles, but Akin’s new movie Soul Kitchen couldn’t be any more different than his previous outings, being more of a light hearted comedy focused around the young owner of a restaurant with several different problems.
Another man owned a similar restaurant and whom in fact inspired the writing of the movie is trying to keep his restaurant soul Kitchen in the green but no matter what he does, he just can’t seem to get the customers to come into the restaurant. When his convict brother gets out of prison he comes to his brother for a job and things really start to get complicated then. A number of factions want to close the family owned restaurant or turn it into something that its not. Akin also reunites in the movie with another character who starred in his movie Head On, this time playing an eccentric chef he hires to try to make his restaurant more upscale.
Akin is a director people have wanted to talk to for quite some time. And many were intrigued by those unique earlier films he did. Soul Kitchen is really quite different being a far more commercial type mainstream film. But audiences looking for an easy way into the world of Akin should be able to enjoy its mix of food, music, humor, and romance. This new movie the Soul Kitchen is a light hearted film and a good method of telling a story in a way that we have never seen from Akin in the past. There is an exclusive clip from the film available for you to view.

According to sources the filmmaker Spike Lee calls the U.S government report about the Oil spill a lie. The comment was that 75 percent of the spilled Gulf coast is gone. Speaking to a meeting of the television critics association on Saturday, Lee said journalists should expose what they are calling the real story. He argued that its was unlikely that all of the oil has vanished from the Gulf Of Mexico and coastal wetlands. Unless the government has gotten good at magic tricks and vanishing the oil. He felt strongly about his comment. According to sources he is not backing down on his comments at all, and that the U.S. is definitely lying about the true situation in the Gulf of Mexico waters and the wetlands affected by the oil.
Sicentists said last week that almost ¾ of the oil has been removed by different artifical natural means, but the spill’s effect on wildlife will continue for quite some time. Lee strongly disagrees saying that he is certain the damage is far worse than they are claiming at this point.
Spike Lee was promoting his new documentary about New Orleans after the Hurricane Katrina it debuts on HBO in August of 2010. He feels that the U.S. government isn’t owning up to the real damage that was caused and how it is still a threat to the waters where the oil spill first began. He claims that more than the wildlife although devastating was also effected. What do you think about the oil spill? Do you feel the way Spike Lee feels about it? Is the U.S covering a bad situation up?
