The Young Victoria Review

The Young Victoria Review

The Young Victoria Review“The Young Victoria” is an epic story, with several well balanced elements: excellent choice of actors, perfect costumes (which is very important for Epic Drama), brilliant choice of music and great production design and art direction.

Director is Jean-Marc Vallee, whose last movie “CRAZY” caused quite a stir. Apart from that, his previous movie established him as a very innovative, free spirited and talented author, and also brought some awards to him (as well as love and respect from critics worldwide, which is quite an achievement).

His casting for this latest film is very smart. Emily Blunt is playing young Queen Victoria – very interesting. First of all, Blunt is famous for her funny, comedian roles, and not for her epic drama involvement. Risqué? Think again, she is British, very popular at the moment, and certainly the movie will gain more press because of her presence. (By the way, she is brilliant).

Starring along Blunt are Miranda Richardson (iconic actress), Paul Bettany (who is the only thing worth looking at in “The Da Vinci Code”) and Rupert Friend (the star of “Pride and prejudice”).

Jean-Marc Vallee’s new feature follows young Queen Victoria, unveiling her first days as a Queen. Stunning Emily Blunt is very persuasive and really keeps the attention on her character throughout the whole movie.
Each actor (of the above mentioned) is perfectly playing the character and it is an understatement to say their performances are stunning. Rupert friend, for instance, plays Prince Albert (who falls in love with Young Victoria) and he is so powerful and convincing one must give him credit for that.

“The Young Victoria” is an epic saga about love and true romance, mixed with difficult life full of boundaries, of a young queen, too responsible to live her life, and too young to just do as she is told.

A must see costume drama which will certainly win many awards on festivals to come.
