There have been reports that Will Smith is in negotiations with the actress Emma Thompson to pen the script for Annie at Columbia Pictures. The updated version of the musical would star Will Smith’s daughter. Thompson is currently co starring with Will Smith in Columbia’s Men in Balck III. The Broadway musical was based upon the popular comic strip and radio show Little Orphan Annie. The show originally opened in 1977 and immediately became a hit, winning several tony awards, including best musical.
Jada Smith and Will smith have formed a joint venture with others to develop and produce major motion pictures . One of the projects being discussed is the re imagination of the classic Broadway musical Annie. A show for Willow Smith to Star.
The release date is to be announced. It is being released by Columbia Pictures. The musical will be starring Willow Smith, however the group would love to get Emma Thompson on board as well. The casting for this film continues. In 1982, Columbia Pictures released a film adaptation directed by John Huston and starring Albert Finney.
