When you start your directing career in “The Jimmy Kimmel Live” show program, it is certain you will have a great sense of humor. That is the case with young Ruben Fleischer, who started on TV, and continued to work as a director with ultra popular actors, combining horror and comedy with ease and style.
His feature entitled “Zombieland” gathers few super-popular young actors: Jesse Adam Eisenberg (“Adventureland”, “Camp hope”, “The Village”), Abigail Breslin (a.k.a. “Little Miss Sunshine”), Emma Stone (“Drive”, “Superbad”) and Amber heard (“The Informers”, “Pineapple express”). Accompanying them, are Hollywood superstars notorious Woody Harrelson (“Natural Born killers”, “Scanner darkly”, “People vs. Larry Flint”) and charming Bill Murray (playing himself).
In this horror comedy we are meeting two interesting men who managed to live and survive in a world led and overrun by hordes of zombies. Columbus (Jesse Adam Eisenberg) is a coward and his fear and paranoia are keeping him alive. The other dude, Tallahassee (Harrelson) is a bad-ass zombie killer, who is determined to survive and find the last Twinkie on our planet. These two survivors decide to join forces with more interesting characters: Little Rock (Breslin) and Wichita (Emma Stone) who are also survivors in a zombie world. As they try to live, survive and make it through the day, they will face some funny and at the same time difficult challenges and figure out if they can actually rely on each other, or is it best to stay on your own.
This mixed genre – comedy/horror is usually a great success with a good director as a leader and interesting cast (like the one in “Zombieland”). In 2009 several similar genre-mixes are announced but this is probably the most promising title since it comes with an incredibly inspiring cast and crew, and from a man whose sense of comedy is certainly going to shine through.
