Women in Trouble

Women in TroubleSebastian Gutierrez is a Caracas born director (Venezuela) who has been writing, producing and directing his movies for almost a decade. Foreign directors often have to wait for a decent chance in Hollywood, or they have to make a movie without support, and try to sell it, and if they are very lucky, that is what will happen.

That is why many foreign directors are often signed as both directors and writers (or even as producers as well), because they work with really small teams, in order to cut on the budget and actually finish a movie.

Luckily for him, Gutierrez is multi talented so therefore, equally successful in every field. For this movie “Women in Trouble” he managed to gather a variety of actors, some very popular and acclaimed like Josh Brolin (nominated for Academy Award), some who are rising stars at the moment – Emmanuelle Chirqui (star of the popular series “Entourage”), and some still anonymous but very talented, like his girlfriend Carla Gugino.

“Women in Trouble” is a movie whose greatest asset is excellent scenario and interesting narrative approach. Sebastian Gutierrez is a great portraitist of a human soul and perfectly understands how people mind work, and how women react and feel in certain situations. Like a true psychologist he shows us how actions and reactions are connected and how life sometimes can be more surprising than anything else.

“Women in Trouble” is a film about ten different women: a flight attendant, a psychiatrist, bartender, masseuse, porn (adult movie) star, call girl etc, and they are all connected. How? Well they are all in deep trouble.

Sometimes movies with lower budget and without big campaigns tend to surprise us. “Women in Trouble” is a nice surprise, because although it’s not a “season’s hit” and doesn’t have a big studio behind it, it will get you involved and tell you a great story about people surrounding us. And once you leave the theatre, it will make you think, and that certainly matters.
