‘White on Rice’ is written and directed by Dave Boyle. Its star cast is Hiroshi Watanabe, James Kyson Lee, Mio Takada and Lynn Chen.
‘Whit on Rice’ is an outstanding comic and a hilarious flick. It revolves around 40-year-old man Jimmy (Hiroshi Watanabe) who is hunting for a perfect soul mate to share his interest of geology and dinosaurs. He is a terribly misguided divorced man, who is not grown up yet. While he shares his bunk bed with his ten-year-old nephew (Justin Kwong), immature Jimmy dreams of having wife to look after him. He goes through the ill treatment and ruthless behavior shown by his cruel brother-in-law Tak (Mio Takada). Ignoring Tak, he looks at the positive things in life. But at the same time, he is flooded with immense love, care and affection by his sister Aiko’s (Nae).
Now things get in to the deeper side of Jimmy when he falls hard for Ramona (Lynn Chen) who happens to be Tak’s niece. Things start getting bad to worse. He tries everything possible under the sun to win over her and to grab her from the hand of her colleague Tim (James Kyson Lee). Jimmy displays utter innocence and craving for a wife only to make his life simpler and worth while. At the same time, Jimmy discovers that his bunk-bed partner and nephew, Bob, nurtures a secret key of rekindling his parent’s love life. Amidst all this, Jimmy has to struggle hard and beyond his capacity to solve all the problems in his life by settling down with a wife.
‘White on Rise’ shows the innocence in Jimmy and his heart touching experiences to have others understand what he wants. It showcases rib-tickling comedy performed by the cast. American and Japanese actors combine for this laughing riot.
