Jason Reitman (nominated for Oscar in 2007) became Hollywood’s household name after directing an indie movie “Juno” and gaining huge success worldwide. This time, the situation is a bit different since he has moved away from his indie status, and teamed up with Paramount Pictures, perhaps world’s most famous production studio.
Reitman is a very talented young man, he works as a producer, writer and director, and is involved in every aspect of his movies, and “Up in the Air” is no different. This Canadian multi-talented filmmaker worked on few excellent projects since “Juno” such as “Saturday Night Live” and “The Office”, and met some very influential artists who decided to team up with him in future on upcoming movies.
One of them is an Academy Award winner George Clooney, who’s been very busy last year but still managed to find some time to do “Up in the Air” with Reitman. Clooney is definitely the “headliner” and his co-stars are Vera Farminga, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman and Danny McBride.
George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham, a corporate guy, whose work (and life) consists of constant travelling. One day, a company he works for, decides to cut down his travel budget, which changes his life from the root.
Ryan Bingham is now sentenced to spending his days at home, without traveling and even worse – without flying. You see, Mr. Bingham is very close to reaching his ultimate goal – reaching the frequent flyer bonus (for 5 000 000 miles spent in the air). And not just that, by staying at home (and away from the plane) he will not be able to see a woman he met on a plane (also a frequent flyer) that he sees as a perfect match and woman of his dreams.
Great story, charming Clooney, and interesting directing – that’s all you need to know before you hit the theater in order to get a perfect dose of fun and laughter.
