The White Ribbon

The White Ribbon Movie‘The White Ribbon’ is an epic, fantasy movie written and directed by Michael Haneke. Its leading stars are Ulrich Tukur, Susanne Lothar, Michael Schenk and Theo Trebs.

‘The White Ribbon’ focuses on the pre-World War I days, and revolves around a tiny village in north Germany. It is a dramatic, epic war movie showcasing the work in North Germany during the mid 1913s. A rural school faces strange and unruly events of jeopardy, which ultimately takes the form of its custom punishment. The students’ education is at stake when their school faces inexplicable and mysterious accidents. The events eventually destroy the peace and prosperity of the tiny village. ‘The White Ribbon’ is a story of the school children as a team of a choir in a school run by a village school authority, along with their families. From the baron, the pastor, the doctor to the tenant farmers and the midwife; the school is managed by every potential member of the village. At the beginning of World War I, the German village faces some disturbing situations that lead to taking on the guise of a ritual punishment. Children and teenagers studying at the school have to sacrifice their education and plan to solve the mystery that aims at ruining the education system along with the village.

‘The White Ribbon’ gives a clear picture of Germany during the 20th century and how it took its shape. It talks about hypocritical grown ups and parents and their unstable children, the community and social life they have in the 20th century German village. The discord hidden under the surface of the well settled German village is gradually revealed when uncertain accidents and strange events begin to happen one by one, with the education system being hit hard by its consequences and influenced by fascism.
