The Providence Effect

The Providence EffectTake one neighborhood, a suburban zone; area full of crime, drugs, violence and murders. Choose a neighborhood you always avoid. The one you don’t drive through, you never walk by, an area you are too afraid to even stop by. Take that kind of a neighborhood, and transform it into a school with top students, where 100% of kids get accepted to college, and where presidents come to show their appreciation. You think this is impossible? Well think again.

Here is the amazing and enlightening story of Chicago’s Providence St.Mel. This documentary has won many awards on festivals nationwide (from Omaha and Lake County to Seattle). It is an inspiration for people today, because it teaches people how to dream big, how to have powerful goals in life and achieve what you feel is right. It teaches all of us to give, help and inspire people around us.

This is a story about a crime driven zone in Chicago, where violence was raging and one man decided to stop it – Paul J. Adams III. But not by fighting the gangs, or creating riots. He decided to fight back by opening a school, offering alternatives, offering education. Helping kids dream and follow their wishes, and showing to them that nothing is impossible, and that we are all equal, no matter where our house is, or what hood we come from. Paul J. Adams III decided to educate children and break the cycle of poverty in the inner city.
His teaching methods, implemented in St. Mel school that throughout the years, various schools started embracing them following this successful example.

The true inspiration and this amazing project are captured in Rollin Binzer’s documentary, which will make you see the world with different eyes, aware of the fact that each and every individual can make a difference, if we just try a bit harder.
