If you like the work of Richarde Eyre, famous British director (known for his breath taking movies, for example “Notes on a scandal”) you know what to expect from this film: excellent cinematography, European directing at its best, strong, interesting story, amazing actors and brilliant soundtrack.
Let’s start with the cast. Richard Eyre never fails when it comes to choosing perfect actors for certain roles. In this movie, he insisted on casting Liam Neeson and even postponed the shooting, in order to wait for Neeson who wasn’t available at the time. He also called the Latin superstar Antonio Banderas, who practically disappeared from the big screen in the past few years. (He was a huge superstar during the nineties). Laura Linney is the main lady, flaunting her often understated charm and brilliant talent.
“The other man” tells a story about Peter, a man who starts doubting his wife’s loyalty, when he sees her e-mails and text messages from another man. Doubt and suspicion start tearing him apart, and he becomes obsessed with the unknown man, and the idea of his lovely wife having an affair.
Peter confesses to his daughter (played by lovely Romola Garai) and she advises him not to do anything stupid and irrational about it. But peter becomes angry and devastated, and decides to find and confront the mysterious man Ralph (Antoni Banderas) and ask about his relationship with Lisa. That mission will take him to Milan, where he finally founds Ricky.
Story about how doubt and suspicion can ruin your relationship is incredibly honest, tensed and well told in “The other man”. Richard Eyre once again established himself as an incredible psychologist with an eye for details and a true talent for telling a good story.
Don’t miss this movie. Wonderful acting and a story with a lot of mystery and emotions will certainly make you think about your own perception of love, life and loyalty.
