Ricky Gervais, award-winning creator and star of the original BBC series “The Office” and HBO’s “Extras”, is debuting in the field of direction with his new upcoming movie, “The Invention of Lying”. He is directing this light comedy along with Matthew Robinson. The movie is being produced by Lin Picture Studio and has gained an overall popularity ranking as 1261, with a 6 rating in genre comedy. The movie was supposed to be titled, “This Side of The Truth” until Gervais announced a change in title in April 2009 in his blog. The film is stated to release in the United States on October 2, 2009.
This new romantic comedy is set in a different world, which does not seem reality in contemporary world. In this alternate world, no one seems to say a lie. Even the concept of lying does not exist in this world. Be any media personality or a politician or even common men and women, everyone sticks to the principle of speaking nothing but the truth. They are not afraid of any sort of consequences for such an act, and are even ready to confront their mistakes. Only then a Hollywood writer, in a miserable condition, named Mark ( Ricky Grevais) develops the art of lying, and becomes the first one to lie. His lies multiply, and in this world where every word said is nothing but truth, are well accepted. He shoots to fame immediately and finds an easier way to fame and success. Ironically, his happiness doesn’t last long. He begins to realize the sudden power of his words. He can sense things getting out of control and really complicating when some of his gossips become gospel. With everything around him changing, there is one thing that Mark is not able to lie: the love of his life.
