True lovers of good movies, are eager to see this one “The Box” (this fall) because of few things. First one – Frank Langella is one of leading actors in it. In case you forgot who this exquisite man is we will remind you; he played Richard Nixon in last year’s masterpiece “Frost/Nixon” and was nominated for Oscar, for that role. Second reason to see “The Box” – finally Cameron Diaz is playing in a movie where she isn’t just a pair of long legs. Third and maybe most important reason is that this is the last movie of young and highly talented director Richard Kelly, who became much respected for his dark movie “Donnie Darko”.
“The Box” is described as a thriller, but the kind that makes you think about your life and gestures. It is the kind of movie you see, and then try to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, and think how you would react if you were the main protagonist.
“The Box” follows a young happy couple, teacher in a private school Norma (Cameron Diaz) and NASA engineer Arthur (James Marsden) in the year 1976. They are young, happy, they live in the suburbs with their kid and everything looks very normal and smooth. Until one day.
They are visited by a man (with a disfigured face) who presents them with a tempting offer: they will get the box with a little button. If they push the button, they will receive one million $, but something horrible will happen to someone they know.
They have only 24 hours to make that choice, but no matter what they decide; Pandora’s Box is already open. Terrible things start happening, without their influence or anything they can do to stop it.
