Secretariat

Oscar nominated Randall Wallace is a legendary Hollywood artist. He is a well known writer, producer and director (Academy Award nomination was for the movie “Braveheart”) always working on projects with some deeper message (you will never see him connected to some shallow story, or a movie which only strong assets are visual effects).

He is also a well known novelist, and (rumor has it) very picky director when it comes to casting. Secretariat movie therefore, has a superb cast and amazing actors are included. First one to be mentioned – beautiful and charming Diane Lane (you know her from “Chaplin”, “A Walk on the Moon”, “A Perfect Storm”). Starring alongside her are legends of modern Hollywood John Malkovich (“Burn after reading”, “Beowulf”, “Klimt”) and Dylan Walsh (“Nip/Tuck”, “The Lake House”).

The movie Secretariat is a Walt Disney Studio production of a historical drama about an amazing horse, winner of numerous races, and his lovely owner, (portrayed by Diane Lane) Penny Chenery.

Penny knew nothing about horses and racing before she was forced to take over her father’s farm in Southern Virginia. She had to trade her housewife lifestyle to a new different kind of living – surrounded by horses, races and bets.

After her father’s death, she had to sell the farm to pay the debt he was in. That was hurtful and painful for her to do, so she decided to fight her battle and pull through without having to back down.

She starts training Secretariat, brilliant horse whose potential she saw, who became the first horse to win the crown three times in 25 years. She fell in love with her horses, with the farm, and eventually became the first lady of modern racing.

Stunning performance by Diane Lane, and heart warming story, with recognizable Disney Studio’s signature is this season’s definite must see movie!
