British director Ridley Scott is (along with his brother Tony Scott) one of the most influential, talented and productive directors of our time. He is the man behind some iconic movies we all know and love for instance: “Blade Runner”, “Thelma and Louise”, “Gladiator”, “Hannibal”, “Black Hawk Down”, “Body of lies” etc. Yet, although most of his movies have a cult status, he has never won an Academy Award (despite being nominated several times).
In 2010 Ridley Scott decided to tell the world a story about the legendary man who “stole from the rich and gave to the poor” – Robin Hood.
While choosing the cast he had one particular man in mind for the role of Robin, his old friend and partner in many movies – Russel Crowe. Beautiful Australian actress Cate Blanchett is playing Made Marian (we know her from “Babel”, “Notes on a Scandal”, “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”…) and Kevin Durand is cast as Little John (Robins best friend and sidekick).
“Robin Hood” is one of the most popular stories of our time, and it has been so far made into movies few times, and there is even a cartoon with Robin Hood theme. But Ridley Scott has promised to stay true to the original story and yet bring something new and unseen about these characters, to the table.
Plot: We follow the life and actions of Richard Coeur de Lion, who latter becomes famous as Robin Hood the hero. Robin was an orphan, and he found love in Nottingham where he decided to stay and live. He becomes a justice seeker and fighter against the rich, because he wants to help poor and unprotected people (seeing his reflection from the past in them). Robin Hood falls in love with an independent, smart Made Marian, and starts fighting even harder for justice, pride and love.
A must see movie of the season! Old story with a new identity and an amazing director to back it up! Don’t miss Robin Hood!
