This epic movie has been in development for many years, and either the studios couldn’t agree which one should produce it, or the actors weren’t available. “Prince of Persia” was waiting for its turn very patiently.
Finally Mike Newell got a green light to start the production of this epic story, and the movie was made during 2009. Newell is a well established director, from Britain, currently living and working in the US, who stands behind excellent movies “Donnie Brasco” and “Mona Lisa Smile”. He is also a man who brought Young Indiana Jones, to life and directed Harry Potter Movie in 2005.
Normally director is not the only one on board for movies like this. The production crew behind the “Prince of Persia” is the best in the world (or in Hollywood at least.) Walt Disney Pictures teamed up with Jerry Bruckheimer (a quick reminder: the same team produced all three “Pirates of Caribbean” movies) and invested a lot of money into making a new epic-action adventure.
Here is the plot summary: The story begins in an ancient and mystical Persia. Prince (portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal) teams up with a lovely and mysterious princess (Gemma Arterton) and together they fight the forces of dark and evil. Their main goal is to keep the priceless dagger, which can reverse time, and help its possessor become the emperor of the world.
The choice of actor for this movie is very interesting, and it seems like Mike Newell had a very clear and precise idea, when casting the crew.
Jake Gyllenhaal is an amazing actor, with old school charm, who gained popularity in “Donnie Darco”, “Brokeback Mountain”, “Jarhead” and “Zodiac”. Young British beauty Gemma Arterton came to Hollywood to star in a James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace” and stayed there, successfully. The biggest name n this cast is certainly Sir Ben Kingsley (Academy Award Winner) and true movie lovers will certainly be happy to hear that Alfred Molina is in the cast too.
With a great crew, excellent production and an inspiring story, there is no doubt we will all enjoy new adventures of Persian prince!
