“Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire” is, as you may noticed, a movie based on a very inspiring book (by an author with a strange name). You know what else is strange? Well, the fact that Mariah Carey acts in this film. I constantly keep asking myself why oh why is she still trying, after being part of oh so horrible “Glitter” back in the days.
But, we will leave that topic to a different occasion. This movie has a very simple tagline: “Life is hard. Life is short. Life is painful. Life is rich. Life is….Precious.”
It should inspire you, enlighten you and help you feel more confident. The whole story is about trying to improve yourself, and achieve something you never thought you can.
“Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire” is the story set in NY (Harlem to be precise) in 1987. The story follows “Precious” a.k.a. Claireece Jones, who is a teenager, overweight, quite unhappy and illiterate. Oh, and pregnant, again. She lives with her mother, who’s being anything but helpful. Big momma is annoying, loud, and aggressive and is constantly bullying her daughter, making her even more miserable (if possible).
But even though her life is hard, Precious is trying to hold her head up high, and she is doing her best to stay positive. The big turn happens when the girl is offered a chance to go to alternative school which eventually helps her find a greater cause in her life and become a proud woman, ready to face the world and show her good sides.
“Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire” is a movie about believing in yourself, investing in your future and transferring form a dark and lonely place, to the position from which you are a ruler of your destiny.
