Joon-ho Bong is a famous Korean director. This country has an long film making tradition, and their movies always have an artistic element, mainly connected to the cinematography which stands out and is truly remarkable. Unlike many other directors from Korea, Joon-ho Bong became very famous in Europe, with his movie “Memories of Murder” (based on a true story) which toured European festivals with big success.
Joon-ho Bong is extremely talented artist, and he is equally successful as an actor, writer and director. So far, he has made seven movies, always showing fabulous narration, knowledge of casting perfect individuals and strong aesthetic, traditionally developed and cherished by Asian filmmakers.
“Mother” is a true emotional rollercoaster. Inspiring story filled with drama, tension, unexpected twists, which can be classified as a mixture of thriller, drama and suspense.
The story follows a mother (played by Hye-ja Kim) who lives with her beloved son Do-joon, who is 28 years old (he is portrayed by Bin Won). She is discreet, quiet and peaceful, working as an acupuncture and herbs provider for her neighbours. One day a young girl in the neighbourhood is murdered and young Do-joon is the main suspect. Once the young guy is imprisoned, his mother has only one goal – to prove his innocence.
This is a plot summary for Joon-ho Bong’s latest feature movie “Mother” and from what you can read, it is going to be nerve racking, full of tension and mystery and of course, mixed emotions throughout the film.
Casting is (as usually for him) perfect. Hye-ja Kim and Bin Won are true stars in korea, with great experience and amazing talent. If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy Korean movies, and Joon-ho’s work, now is the right time to start.
“Mother” – great story, fabulous directing, best Korean actors and tension until the very end. We gladly recommend.
