Nanette Burstein is an American artist of a younger generation. She has been working for almost a decade, as a writer, producer and director. Her biggest success so far was the movie “American Teen” – a documentary she wrote, edited, produced and directed. That story about high school kids/teens in Indiana, telling their hopes, fears, ideas, and wished, became a huge success. It showed how these kids feel and live, and established Nanette as a brilliant portraitist of human nature and psychology.
In “Going the Distance” she is still trying to do a soul search and tell us more about people’s feelings, relations and choices. For her new flick, Nanette Burstein teamed up with ex child star, actress and producer Drew Barrymore (“Charlie’s Angels”, “Music and Lyrics”, “Family guy”), Christina Applegate (“Married with Children”, “Samantha Who”) and one of busiest young Hollywood actors Justin Long (“King of the Hill”, “Funny People”).
“Going the Distance” is produced and presented by the New Line Cinema, and is labeled as a romantic comedy. The story follows two people in their thirties, who are trying to maintain a long distance relationship.
At some point, they realize that things aren’t going quite well, and that it would actually be nice to date someone who is always around, near you or at least in the same time zone. Their search for happiness initiates the breakup, and then the hard part starts – getting over someone and even harder, finding someone new.
The cast is perfect in this movie, and that is something you will notice right away. Apart from that, you will be impressed with the way Nanette Burstein portrays relationships and things people feel and say in emotionally hard situations (you might even feel like having déjà vu while watching).
If you love romance and comedies, don’t miss this one. Non pathetic yet heart warming, with some humor added. A definite must see.
