Gamer is written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Gamer is an action-packed, thriller flick. It stars Gerard Butler as the main character. The storyline is set in the world of future gaming and revolves around Butler. Where gaming technology reaches its peak, and humans controlling each other through the virtual world, there are certain terrifying experiences that come along with it. Kable (Butler) is the ace gamer who is master player of ‘Slayers’. But, this superstar is controlled by his counterpart. Showcasing the most incredible world of online gaming, Kable seeks for his independence in this thriller movie. The mastermind behind this hybrid high technology game is Michael C. Hall, who plays Ken Castle. This brutal game sweeps away Kable’s world off his feet, when Hall forces him and drags him into playing it.
Kable is assisted with Simon who is the support system behind his every win in the battle of gaming. Players are made to fight till they die in front of a vast audience that is globally spread. Kable struggles his way out from the bitter control of Hall. The plot gets more ruthless when Kable is imprisoned, and deprived of his identity.
‘Gamer’ focuses on how Butler must fight to get his identity back and to battle a war of freedom. The hybrid form of virtual gaming turns out to be a nightmare to Kable. He is opened up in front of the online audience and made to survive through thin and thick, only to save his superstar image and a hit game player.
Future world of gaming gains a complete control on Kable’s life, at the cost of his fame. He is made to surrender and his only aim, now, is to prevent the entire human race from falling prey to this dangerous online virtual game invented by the Ken Castle.
