Directed by Martin Campbell, ‘Edge of Darkness’ is a suspense and thriller movie, full of drama. Darkness dawns the seasoned cop (Gibson) who has dutifully prevented several homicide and murders. He gets a taste of his own medicine. Gibson falls victim to murder so close at home. Ironically, this veteran cop could not guarantee the safety of his grown up child (Novakovic) who is murdered at the safest place, his door step.
It soon comes to fore that the murder is more than just another crime. The discovery of the murder of the Gibson’s daughter is only a tip of the ice berg. The cop soon realizes that the death of the child is actually an attempt to cover up. That there are strings pulled from very high ends, this is a top secret. The big shots calling the shots are actually in the high and mighty corporate seats. These gangs are confident because they are backed by the men and of women of authority in the government.
The daughter is actually a sacrifice for the sacred business deals. These deals must remain secretive irrespective of the cost, even a cost of human life. This cost is paid for by Novakovic. Huston plays the role of a shady businessman. The audience is exposed to the price for business that is often paid to enable the crooked businesses to remain afloat.
It is a world of espionage, money, drugs and sex. Robert, who plays Novakovic’s hysterical and agitated boyfriend, is an example of valueless man who will do anything as long as it meets his selfish lifestyle.
This is a magnificent remaking of the 1985 BBC movie. It is a classic that brings to life today’s challenges that often arise due to the unholy mix between politics, business and romance.
This is a drama series that will keep you glued to the screen. Watch out for the ‘Edge of darkness’, it is worth your time and money.
