It is not unusual to see young actors branching out to other artistic fields, like directing. Many popular and very talented performers switched from their (more or less) successful TV roles, to try their luck in directing. Zach Braff did it. Adam Goldberg did it. Now John Krasinski also switched to the other side and entered the world of movie directing.
This young American gained popularity in famous NBC’s TV series “The Office” and also did a voice over for “Monsters vs. Aliens”. He also won Screen Actors Guild awards for outstanding performance in a comedy series, for this show “The office” (two years in a row).
But acting, clearly, is not his only talent. He was a script intern for the show “Late night with Conan O’Brien”, and transferred to acting after that. His biggest love remains writing, and he gives it another shot in a movie “Brief Interviews With hideous Men”, which he also directed.
This flick, described as a “dark comedy”, speaks about the complexity of people’s relations, portraits the battle of sexes, and shows the variety of men, their nature, psychology and actions.
Main character is Sara Quinn – charming, young doctoral candidate at the East Coast University. She studies anthropology and constantly seeks for answers on why people act the certain way. After her boyfriend walks away without an explanation, she starts a series of one on one interview with different men, trying to understand their actions and behavior. She sees this task as a chance to heal heartache and finish an academic project (on this topic). As she proceeds with the interviews, she starts discovering different things about men, and most importantly about herself, and the way she’s been handling her life.
Interviews show how unique everyone is, and how generalization is not a smart solution. Also, they start the circle of introspection, which will amuse you, and also make you look inside your soul, finding perhaps some new, undiscovered things; you might want to learn more about.
