An Education

An Education ReviewA promising star cast and a heartfelt story are directing that this is going to be a movie to watch for!

The movie is about a young girl in wait to be an adult and dreams about the fine things of life. The movie is about the decisions which she has to make, and bear the consequences she has to bear the rest of her life. It calls her to take a grown up decision and go through such experiences when she is still an adolescent.

16 year old Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is doing well in her school and is bored of the adolescent routine of her life. One day when she is stuck in rain, a rich gentleman (Peter Sarsgaard) comes to her rescue. In this brief meeting the 30-something gentleman falls for Jenny and goes ahead to propose her. Surprisingly he also convinces her conservative parents (Alfred Molina and Cara Seymour).

With this they become a couple and now he exposes her to a lot of different things which a girl her age only dreamt of. He introduced her to his social indulgences and his attractive friend (Dominic Cooper) and his callous beauty, Helen (Rosamund Pike). He started a new kind of education routine for her, after school he would take her in his car to the smoky clubs and art auctions. He took her to the dazzling world of late night suppers and classical concerts.
She liked everything which was happening to her. She even goes to Paris with him where she loses her virginity.

When she comes back from the tour her teachers (Emma Thompson and Olivia Williams) who looked up to her were scandalized. They thought that she was drifting away from her life and her prospect of higher education at oxford. They think that David will be responsible for her undoing.

It is about a clash of ideologies. Jenny has to decide what to choose, which form of education to vie for. At one hand she gets the traditional education and on another a set of new experiences. She feels grown up but not wise enough!

I also just watched this last night and was very impressed with it. I think the great acting goes further than Molina and Mulligan (who the popular press decided to focus on) with Sarsgaard and Dominic Cooper both doing really well as well. I agree with a lot of your summation here.

Paris Hilton can not be very suprised that she was denied admission to Japan. She admited her drugs charges. She might presume that she ought to be given unique handling but fortunately common sense has prevailed.
