‘Adventures of Power’ is another underdog movie talking about the struggles of a dreamer, Power (writer-director Gold) and his quest of life. Based on the life and adventures of this small town miner, Power, the movie comes across as a light hearted, slapstick comedy. Underdog Power is a miner and lives with his father (McKean). He wished to be drummer but could not pursue the dream as his father could not afford to gift him a drum set. As an alternative to this, he started air drumming which needed no instruments, but that according to his father was fooling around.
Now as per the movie’s opening line- a mother gets to know about her child by listening to his heart beat and so should we be doing when we don’t know how to proceed further in life.
Hence when his town faces problems and staying there was not feasible he listened to his heart beat and played accordingly. He left for his city of opportunities- Newark to pursue his dream of air drumming. He left with a few essentials and the support of his aunt (Lynch), who liked the little jig he does.
There in Newark he starts a new life and joins a crew of people who also do air drumming. There he has a series of experiences and struggles to finally come to realize his dream of being a part of an air drumming event. But the road to this event/competition doesn’t come easy, as a drummer (Grenier) in the city considers air drumming as a disgrace.
This multi-millionaire drummer is the villain of Power’s story. He hunts them to destroy their group. Even though the movie is predictable and just-like-any-other-underdog-movie, it does its magic by reinforcing the sentiment of self believe and the spirit to pursue your dreams.
