‘The Invention of Lying’ is new romantic comedies from its director Ricky Gervais. Ricky is an award winning creator and director. He is also the star of the original BBC series ‘The Office’ and ‘Extras’ from HBO. The story of the movie takes place in an alternate reality. Here the concept of lying does not exist still. This is a time when no one knows about lying and telling a lie is a distant affair for anyone. Ever one in this time speaks truth and only truth be it politicians, lawyers, businessmen, media and even a common man on the street. The only thing that prevails here is truth and trust.
The character Mark in the movie discovers the art of lying. He understands that the art of lying is not too difficult and moreover, even a simple lie sometimes can fetch a lot of benefits. Mark starts practicing lying to his acquaintances and is very happy to discover the results of this. In this time, everyone is assumed to be speaking the truth and no one is even imagined of saying a lie. Here Mark with his art of lying makes way to the glories and fortune. The way for Mark has been very easy as he was always taken to be speaking the truth. Mark son realized that the lies he has made to the world are getting the situation out of his control.
Some of the tallest tales of his lying started to be considered as gospels than reality. The only person in the whole world, Mark has not been able to lie to is the lady of his love. Mark has practiced day in and day out for speaking the lie but till date he has not been able to tell a single lie to his beloved. This is the only factor that Mark could not control with his tales of lies.
