Extract Review

Extract ReviewMike Judge is a very famous American actor, writer, producer and director, best known for his work in a TV series “King of the Hill”. Apart from that successful TV show in which he participated for over a decade, he is well, known for several more projects, working on various positions. He was a part of “Saturday Night Live”, “Office Space”, “Beavis and Butt-Head” etc.

Mike Judge is usually credited as an artist who tries to make comments and observations on the social surrounding in America, and that is the main point of view in “Extract” as well.

The story follows young man called Joel Reynold, who is working in a company Reynold Extracts, which he founded and started (and owns for years). It is not a very interesting job, it is very stressful, and his days all look the same and he is therefore feeling quite numb. First bad situation that happens is when his worker gets injured and he finds out that guy can sue the company, and most probably win big.

The other problem Joel has is his wife. She doesn’t feel attracted to him, their sex life doesn’t exist and he is miserable – thinking she’s cheating on him.
At the same time, he meets young and attractive Cindy, and starts flirting with her, and eventually (encouraged by his friend) having an affair. That is a point of no return, and a trigger to many funny situations he will get involved in.
“Extract” is very amusing and the casting is done very well. Confused and troubled young CEO is portrayed by Jason Bateman (“Juno”, “Hancock”), lovely Cindy is played by Mila Kunis (“That 70’s Show”, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) and the role of friend-advisor dean is given to Ben Affleck.

Refreshing, interesting, funny and intelligent! That is the best description of “Extract” a comedy you will happily enjoy.
