It has been confirmed that Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff, who did the writing for Kung Fu Panda will also be writing the sequel to the Karate Kid. In the first installment of Karate Kid which starred Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith brought in an impressive three hundred million worldwide.
Brought out by Columbia Pictures this new installment has basically been on the low key as to what the plot is going to be or who the other cast members will essentially be. It will once again be produced by Will Smith with Overbrook Entertainment being partners too. In addition, there was a bit of controversy over the first Karate Kid starring Jackie Chan due to the fact that it was a remake of the Karate Kid brought out in the 80’s.
The first installment consisted of a twelve year old boy who could’ve been the most well known kid in Detroit, however his mother’s career had them moving to China. The twelve year old falls for a class mate and the feeling is mutual however the cultural conflict made a really good friendship virtually impossible. And to make things even worse for the twelve year old, the class bully has decided to become his worst enemy.
In the art of Kung Fu, the twelve year old only knows a little about karate and the bully of the class puts the Karate in the word of Kung Fu. Having no friends and feeling alone, the boy can only turn to a maintenance man, who is secretly one of the masters of Kung Fu. He teaches the boy that Kung Fu isn’t just about punches and kicking but about maturity and a calm well being.
As stated above the plot for the second installment hasn’t been released yet, however it will probably be just as good as the first installment.
