Warner Bros. has plans to adapt Stephen King’s 1978 novel “The Stand”. for the big screen according to reports.
However, this is one of those series that was previously adapted for a television miniseries in 1994. “The Stand” tells the story of a full scale apocalypse, driven by the accidental release of a biological weapon and the ensuing struggle of good versus evil carried out by the world’s final survivors. The original article notes that discussion of the adaptation is at the very early stage and that its still not clear whether the text would be adapted as just a single film. The original version of the book is famously massive, in a complete and uncut edition released in 1990.
Although “The Stand” is one of Stephen King’s finest feats this fantasy adventure drama was first brought to the screen in 1994. Now it is headed for the big screen. The story takes place over a lengthy amount of time and includes a lot of characters with a lot of sub plots. There will be a challenge that will cause problems for the screenwriters is to bring this film to the big screen in less than three and a half hours.
To those people who are unfamiliar with “The Stand” this is about a man made super flu virus that escapes from a government lab to kill ninety percent of the world wide population. It is about the psychology that comes into play when opposing views clash over how best to rebuild a society that was literally stricken with the virus.
At this point Warner Bros. has not announced any names of cast or crew members that could be attached to the project. The scheduled release is still uncertain as well.
