This is the type of documentary that is somewhat of a movie. It is to be released in June 2010. It is rated R. It is being released by National Geographic Entertainment. The director is hoping that this documentary movie goes over well at the theaters.
It has to do with the military and any time this is the subject we all start to think of the troops that we want to come home. Sebastian Junger and his friend Tim direct a year of being dug in and present with the second platoon in basically one of Afghanistan’s worst and most strategically crucial area.
It is a valley that reveals the essential insight into the reality and the combination of such back breaking work, along with deadly shooting and firefights. In addition, the camaraderie as the military and the soldiers fight to keep the Taliban pushed back to where they want them to be. Being a soldier is tiring and tedious, and they are proud, strong, and committed to the job that they know they must do.
Then after doing this, and accepting the realization of what the soldiers and military do and are capable of the two writers are now ready to create the documentary movie and pass it on to you.
There are still images of this documentary as well as coming soon there will be a movie trailer you can view scenes of to see if this if something you would like to go see at the movie theaters.

Just finished the book, wow!
The book itself, having been taken from the notes and sound film taken by Sebastian and Tim ,was a very revealing and masterful work of art.
It chronicles the “grunts” role as the “expendable” defender and offensive weapon and opens the eyes of the reader to the feelings that close operating units develop towards their teammate, team, squad, platoon and company.
The developemtn of combat units and soldiers and leaders just does not happen. They have to be heated, quenched and forged in the hard way that is combat!
This book tells it like it really is and anyone who has ever takent the oath to “uphold the constitution” will read it and know it is a great work.
The writing does well to bring the reader into the unit and meet the men at Restreprop, introduce us to the harsh high elevation surroundings and the peoples war, one of the three they were also trying to win.
Best read I have had in a long time!
What date will Restrepo be released. I have read “War” by Junger and am anxious to see the documentary. Can you give me dates .
Restropo is in some theaters now. However, good luck in finding one. I hope that it will be more widely released soon. Its too bad that on the National Geographic Website you cannot locate a theater where it is playing unless you know the zipcode or city where it is playing. You would think that they would let you know at least in which State or general location where it is showing.
Cant find it anywhere > I was in afghanistan.
May I purchase a copy of the documentary? I was a member of the 173rd and I have found the trailers of Restrepo intriguing and walk away impacted!
Restrepo is the best movie I’ve seen in a long time. It”s a group portrait of practicing patriots.
I also read the book and want to see the documentary. National Geographic: Please make it easy to find a location where it is being shown. I hope it will be released in many areas. The story is compelling and I think it will get a lot of viewers if people know about it.
