Over a week ago it was reported that Angelina Jolie passed the lead female role in the planned 3D thriller Gravity. This movie has Robert Downey Jr. starring in the lead role. And despite recent rumors being offered to potential candidates the word comes now that Natalie Portman has been offered the part, having earned a great performance call in the thriller Black Swan.
With a reported budget of eighty million dollars the movie focuses on a female astronaut sent out to fix the Hubble telescope who is the sole survivor left stranded after space junk hits her way out. So she must fight her way back to earth. Cuaron clearly needed a strong dramatic actress who could also be considered a box office draw in order to justify the budget. Portman wtill has to read the script and make her decision but she is currently the director’s first choice, and whoever ends up with the role, Gravity is to start shooting and filming in England at the end of January. Sources go on to say that the director wants Portman to star in his Jerry Lewis project too, also being produced with Brad Pitt, while screenwriter Stoppard is also writing something for Portman. Its hard to think that an actress whose early career included Star Wars Prequels may be attaining another level in that career, but with early rumors Portman might receive her second Oscar nomination for Black Swan, she is clearly in demand right now.
Gravity is a thriller, drama, and sci fi type movie. The release date hasn’t been set however as stated above filming for the movie should begin in January. Being about a space adventure where the leader of a team posted at a remote space station. While he and a female colleage are traveling outide the space station, the other team members are decimated by debris from an exploded satellite.
