And yet the 53 year old television host and actress will be honored at the 33rd annual event in Washington D.C. on December the 5th along with the former Beatles star Paul McCartney and the country music singer Merle Haggard along with other honorees. The Kennedy center honors recognize performing artists for their contributions to American culture. Winners are selected by the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees. In addition to her award winning television show, Winfrey earned academy award and golden globe nominations for her work in the movie the Color Purple. In essence she is used to celebrating others, both on her popular television show and at previous Kennedy Center Honors programs, but she said she’s looking forward to being celebrated this time around. It really makes her feel as though she has accomplished a lot in her lifetime. The man who is responsible for the event, creator and producer George Stevens Jr. is said being a spectator is part of the fun for attendees.
Oprah has done a lot both on a big level down to the personal level of people and she should be recognized for her efforts throughout her career. This is what her being an honoree into the Kennedy Center really means. She has done so much for everyone else, they believe it is time to give back to her just a little. Oprah is honored just to be included in the list of those being honored and she knows just how big it is to feel the way she does.
