According to sources Michael J Fox has been given an honorary degree of Medicine to Canadian American actor Michael J Fox for his work to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s disease.
The Institute which awards the annual Nobel Prize in medicine says the Michael J Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research has since 2000 given more than $175 million to research aimed at developing drugs against the disease.
Fox was diagnosed himself with Parkinson’s disease in 1991. The disease is progressive neurological condition that impairs motor skills. Fox will receive the doctorate in a ceremony in New York on Friday.
Unfortunately the number of individuals diagnosed with this disease is as high as those individuals that are diagnosed with different types of cancer and all are looking for a cure. Although, Fox is an advocate for the Parkinson’s disease in which he suffers from himself. Although there are some medications that ease the disease, a cure hasn’t been found yet for it.
You might remember Michael J Fox from the movie Back to the Future as well as many other movies he played in before he was diagnosed with this disease. Now he is focused on a cure or medications that will help in the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
If you have comments about this or information about someone you know that has this disease we would love to hear about it. You can post it in comments or go to the celebrity forums on this site and post your story there as well. Michael J Fox is doing well and he takes medication to help calm his Parkinson’s disease but he admits there are days when it is worse and then it is not that easy to participate in finding a cure or medications to help get rid of Parkinson’s symptoms as far as motor skills or even a cure. But he is determined and refuses to give up.
