Kevin has been the Tonight Show band leader for 18 years with the show. He feels he needs a change, something new in his life. However he didn’t go into great details of what he is planning on doing to change his career. Kevin Eubanks is 52 now and says that playing with the Tonight show has brought him a lot of satisfaction and happiness. He told Jay Leno he felt like the Tonight show was home.
His final show will be in May of 2010, and then he moves on. He is a great musician, and he will be missed. According to sources he said after playing the way he has for 18 years he wants to go somewhere; where he can actually finish a song.
He has no idea what he will do now, however he is good friends with Jay Leno and Jay called him one of his best friends and said he was sorry to see him go. The bandleader for the Tonight Show has seen the hosts come and go, and now its time for him to move on too. In addition, he wanted people to know that it had nothing to do with the television network, Jay, or the money- he just wants to do something else with his life and career now whatever that might be.
Eubanks was asked about some of the highlights in his career with the Tonight show and he told them meeting B.B King as well as other music icons. He named different musical icons too. He knows this is a big step he is taking but Kevin believes there is something more out there in the world that he is supposed to be doing.
If you have comments about this post and Kevin Eubanks leaving the Tonight Show we would be glad to hear from you.
