Golden Girl Rue McClanahan Dies At 76



Rue died on Thursday according to sources. The former Golden Girl star, she was known as Blanche on the television sitcom. Sources say that Rue had a stroke on Monday and she had already suffered a minor stroke earlier this year after having a bypass surgery.

She was in the hospital and her son, her sister, and her nephew were all with her when she died. She passed quickly and peacefully. She was in New York when she died. Her death is one of three out of the four Golden Girls on the show. Bea Arthur passed away in 2009, and Estelle Getty in 2008. The surviving Golden girl is Betty White at the age of 88.

Rue was a television legend to many people, she made appearances on different shows such as Law and Order, and Meet the Browns. But her best performances were those of the Golden Girls television series. She also was a part of the spin off of the Golden Girls which lasted for one season only. She will be greatly missed and a lot of up and coming actresses looked to Rue for inspiration and guidance on several different occasions.

Her career as an actress started in the sixties and ended last year due to the minor stroke she had. She was active in charities and helping others where she was needed. According to sources who talked to friends and relatives she was an outgoing person. Her personality on the Golden Girls was one of comedy and she loved to make people laugh.
