It won’t be long before Oprah has her own cable network. As she prepares to launch OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, the media maven is taking a few steps to ensure a great start to her new network. She took one precaution and that was a crazy check for Rosie O’Donnell who has been tapped to have her own OWN show.
According to sources, Oprah revealed that she and OWN chief creative officer visited Rosie at her home last June to determine if the television personality would be right for her new venture. Rosie claimed that she was visited to see if she was crazy and basically doing a crazy check.
The daytime queen was impressed with Rosie, who made headlines when she left the View in 2007 following an on air argument with another host on the show, not to mention a very public spat with Barbara Walters too. What Oprah found was a generous mother. As for dealing with any problems that might arise with Rosie’s new OWN talk show. Oprah is expecting direct communication from her. If Rosie has a question or a problem she was told to speak directly to Oprah. Oprah wants the network to get positive feedback and simply wonderful ratings. So she definitely doesn’t want anything to go wrong.
Other sources stated that the new network would start to appear on the cable network in January of 2011. This is a date that isn’t that far off and the queen of television doesn’t want anything to go wrong. This is why Oprah is taking the steps she is doing right now.
