Courtney Love, widow to Kurt Cobain who himself was the lead singer of the rock band Nirvana, is pursuing legal action against the producers of the Guitar Hero game on the grounds that the company has disrespected Cobain’s work along with infringing it. The fundamental issue at stake here is that the Guitar Hero producers included images of Cobain who then sings and lip syncs other rock songs. Love argues that this is disrespectful to her late husband’s memory and as such is seeking to get a court action to stop the sale of the game.
Love also alleges that she had not at any given time, given any express consent whether in writing or otherwise authorizing the Activision company to use Cobain’s image in this manner although her wrath has not been limited solely to the Activision company but has also been directed towards Dave Grohl, the former drummer of Nirvana and the front man of the Foo Fighters now.
According to the Activision Company, Love actually chose the clothing and all of the styles as well as actively encouraged the inclusion of Cobain in the game. She wanted Cobain in her youth, and she chose all the clothes in which he is clad in within the game.
