According to sources George Clooney, Will Smith, and Gwyneth Paltrow will join an outstanding cast of stars that will be taking part in September’s Stand Up To Cancer telethon airing on major networks. There will literally be several different actors and actresses that will essentially be a part of the anti-cancer telethon.
There will also be performances by Billie Joe Armstrong, Neil Diamond, The Edge, Herbie Hancock, and many more. Clooney, in particular, is a fundraising heavy weight and at Sunday’s Emmy awards he accepted the Bob Hope Humanitarian award for efforts on behalf of victims of this year’s earthquake in Haiti, the 2004 Tsunami in Indonesia and the September 11 attacks.
Stand Up To Cancer is aimed at raising money to speed up cancer research, according to movie producer Laura Ziskin who is a cancer survivor and the co-founder of the Stand Up to Cancer group. The telethon will be simulated commercial free by many stations and networks on September 10th. A donation of any size brings scientists one step closer to a cure. All public donations go to cancer research. The telethon is returning once again after a 2008 event helped deliver more than one hundred million dollars to research for Cancer and the concept of having more cancer survivors and a better survival rate.
The American Association for Cancer Research, the scientific partner of Stand Up To Cancer, administers grants and provides oversight in partnerships with a stand up to cancer committee. Many people who have donated in the past during these telethons often commit to making a donation every time it is possible and there are those who make donations on a monthly basis. However, the telethon is always a good thing and the actors and actresses who support the efforts are commended for sharing their time and being on the show for better Cancer Awareness.
