According to sources the 39 year old star of the cable series “Spartacus” has died. He died of Lymphoma on Sunday in Sydney, Australia. His wife was with him when he died in his home. Andy was born in Wales and lived in Australia. He literally was a nobody until he received the part of the title hero in “Spartacus”. A hit original series for the Starz network that actually made waves with its graphic violence and sexuality. Whitfield was getting ready for the second season when he found out about the Lymphoma almost eighteen months ago.
The people that knew him called him a champion. Both on the screen and in real life. And even though he was faced with a personal battle his personality never wavered. He would smile even on the worst of days for him.
Other sources spoke to the CEO of Starz and their comment was that they were sad about finding out about the loss of Andy Whitfield. That they were fortunate to have him work for them on “Spartacus.” Andy was an inspiration to all of us as he faced Lymphoma. He had faith, courage, and grace.
Sources said that the family is asking for the respect of their privacy at this time, but thank everyone for their prayers for Andy.
